Lately, we are seeing a lot of repairers and customers accidentally damage the flex cables and screens during the installation of our new iPhone X range of displays, so we thought we would write this small blog post on how to notice and combat these issues.
A common issue we are finding is that people are not positioning the flex cable correctly, which means that when the screen is pressed down into the body of the phone, they are trapping the flex (as pictured below). It is important that the flex cables are correctly positioned into the space designed for them. It’s also important that care is taken when pushing the screen down into the chassis so that cables are not trapped. If screens are returned to us with this damage, we are unable to replace the screens under our warranty.
Another common issue we are seeing are customers coming back with lines vertically down the screen after fitting the display to the chassis. These lines are a result of a cracked display which is often caused by the front camera module being pulled out of position in the initial removal of the original screen. It is important that once you have fully removed the original screen and cleaned up the screen adhesive that you check the position of the camera as the camera bracket can easily bend during the removal.
When the camera is positioned incorrectly, it will not fit with the LCD as it’s designed to. This will cause the camera lens holder to be pushed against the LCD assembly, and when the X model screen is fitted and not correctly seated, what generally happens is more pressure is applied. This will result in the screen cracking. This unfortunately can not be covered under our warranty as this is considered improper installation and damage by the manufacturer. Please see some pictures below showing what the damage looks like and what the camera presses against.
