2021’s iPhone 13 range proves to be better, thanks to many new, innovative features that come to the phones – capabilities, and functions that you don’t get on the iPhone 12. So, what is new with this iPhone 13?
Let’s take a look.
If you currently have a charging adapter that consists of a Lightning cable, then you have nothing to be concerned about. Plug the iPhone 13, and simply charge up like normal. And if you’re purchasing the iPhone 13 and have Qi wireless chargers throughout your house, the iPhone 13 may also use these perfectly well. According to Apple, most people purchasing an iPhone 13 may already possess the proper accessories for charging its battery.
By excluding a possibly unwanted charging adapter, the company gets to reduce e-waste and save some extra along the way. Whether or not it’s the right move is still up for discussion, but that is how Apple does its business nowadays.
In case someone buying this iPhone 13 doesn’t own a compatible wall adapter, you can find numerous charging accessories that can have the job done. For most people, the easiest option is Apple’s official USB-C Power Adapter. It offers 20W charge speeds and works with the cable that typically accompanies the iPhone 13.
Although just about any of Amazon’s USB-C power adapters will also work, this is the ideal choice for people who need to only buy from Apple. You could also get a power adapter (30W) on Apple for $49, but that is often required for larger devices such as an iPad or a MacBook. Because the iPhone 13 delivers wired charging speeds of up to 20W, there is no tangible advantage of purchasing an adapter that’s more powerful than this.
Yep. All the newly introduced iPhone 13 models come with a Lightning port (without a 3.5mm headphone jack). Alternatively, you can charge them wirelessly using a Qi-based wireless charger or MagSafe.
Sadly, the new iPhone 13 doesn’t come with a Touch ID. There were initially rumours that the new design would consist of under-screen fingerprint scanners, and most users had expectations they would be able to select whether to use Touch ID or Face ID.
This is not the case though. Much like all other Apple phones launched after the iPhone 8, this iPhone 13 comprises Face ID which enables folks to unlock their phone device through facial recognition.
The iPhone 13 comes with only two passcode systems; the Face ID and the usual letter or number password.
There isn’t much difference when it comes to the design of all the four iPhone 13 models and their predecessors (iPhone 13 compared to the iPhone11, say). They comprise similar size screens and similar flat edges. The real distinction is that Apple made its notch 20% smaller. It also comes with all the same sensors that allow FaceID. However, Apple decided to squish them tighter together to ensure that you get a little more screen. The other huge difference is that these four iPhones house bigger camera bumps. That means that your old iPhone 12 case cannot fit.
Nonetheless, weight is also a difference. The improved camera systems and the larger battery have resulted in all these iPhone 13 models being a bit heavier compared to their iPhone 12 counterparts. And although it’s not a big difference, when holding the two iPhones, the iPhone 13 models tend to feel a bit denser.
The rear-camera systems are another considerable reason why you would wish to upgrade to iPhone 13 from your old iPhone 12 — Apple enhanced them both significantly.
The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini have the same dual-camera system, comprising wide and ultra-wide lenses. However, Apple gave them a relatively larger sensor and improved optical image stabilization; the primary result is that both are better at capturing detail when it comes to low-light settings.
The bigger upgrade comes with the “Pro” line. Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro, as well as iPhone 13 Pro Max, consist of a similar triple-camera system and it is a huge improvement compared to their predecessors. The wide lens consists of a much larger sensor, while the ultra-wide lenses comprise a wider aperture and telephoto with improved optical zoom.
You will realise that the iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro are considerably better low-light shooters (quite frankly, all three lenses can now operate on Night Mode) and they also come with an exclusive feature known as macro photography. This is where when you get near a subject (about 10cm to 2cm), it will automatically switch to the ultra-wide lens while maintaining the same frame and maintaining the same focus.
It’s pretty awesome!
Cinematic mode is a newly introduced video mode in all these iPhone 13 models that allows you to shoot video with a particular subject in focus while the background is blurred — it is more like portrait mode, but specifically for video. The real distinction is that Cinematic mode can change which subject becomes the focus during the video, and it can either automatically do this or you could tap a subject on your device to switch the focus. You may even edit and change which subject will be in focus once the video is shot. This generally makes your video get a more dramatic (or cinematic) feel. The issue is that it only functions in 1080p at 30fps, which means it is not really a “Pro” feature.
No. Apple did not change the MagSafe from the iPhone 12 series to the new iPhone 13 series. Apart from working with similar accessories, they still charge at similar max charging speeds.
