iPhone Screen Grades Compared: Genuine, Refurbished and iP9
iPhone screen replacement covers a wide range of grades, and choosing the right one comes down to the device value, the customer's budget, and whether the screen needs to read as genuine in iOS. Every grade we stock restores full display and touch function. The differences are in the panel technology, how the screen presents in iOS Parts and Service History, and price. True Tone and auto-brightness work across all grades on the latest iOS. Here is how they compare, listed best to value.
| Grade | Display tech | iOS Parts & Service History | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Genuine New | Original Apple OLED/LCD assembly | Reads as genuine. Full pairing. | Flagship devices where an exact factory-spec result is required. |
| Refurbished | Genuine Apple OLED panel, new front glass | Genuine panel; wont calibrate unless it has the sensor flex included | Genuine panel quality at lower cost than a new genuine assembly. |
| iP9 Soft OLED Calibration | Flexible aftermarket OLED | Calibrates as genuine used. No Important Display Message. | The premium aftermarket choice where avoiding the iOS warning matters. |
| iP9 Soft OLED | Flexible aftermarket OLED | True Tone works. Shows non-genuine display indicator. | A top-quality OLED result at a strong price for most modern iPhones. |
| iP9 Hard OLED | Rigid aftermarket OLED | True Tone works. Shows non-genuine display indicator. | Excellent OLED colour at a lower price; best on flat-front models. |
| iP9 FHD / HD+ LCD | Higher-resolution LCD | True Tone works. Shows non-genuine display indicator. | Sharp, cost-effective replacement for LCD-native iPhones. |
| iP9 HD LCD | Entry-resolution LCD | True Tone works. Shows non-genuine display indicator. | The keenest price for budget repairs on LCD-native models. |
A quick rule of thumb: Genuine New or Refurbished where genuine panel quality and clean iOS reporting matter, iP9 Soft OLED Calibration as the premium aftermarket option that calibrates as genuine used with no warning, Soft or Hard OLED for an excellent OLED result at a keen price, and the LCD tiers for LCD-native models and the most cost-effective repairs. Match the display technology to what the device originally shipped with: an OLED-native iPhone needs an OLED grade, not LCD.
About iPhone Screen Replacement
Screen replacement is the highest-volume iPhone repair after battery service, and the grade decision matters more here than on almost any other part. The iP9 range gives repair shops a full ladder of options: a Calibration Soft OLED that reads as a genuine used display in iOS with no Important Display Message, standard Soft and Hard OLED grades for an excellent OLED result at a keener price, and FHD/HD+ and HD LCD tiers for LCD-native models and budget repairs. Genuine New and Refurbished grades sit above the iP9 range for repairs where a genuine Apple panel is required.
The single most important compatibility rule is matching the display technology to the device. iPhones from the X onwards (excluding the LCD-based 11, XR and SE line) shipped with OLED panels and should be repaired with an OLED grade. The LCD-native models can take the FHD/HD+ or HD LCD grades. Fitting the wrong technology is not possible owing to different flex connections and calibration. Filter the listings on this page by your specific iPhone model using the menu on the left, and the available grades for that model will be shown.
Fitting Notes for Trade
iPhone screen replacement requires careful transfer of the original sensors and brackets from the old screen to the new one: the earpiece speaker mesh, the proximity sensor flex, and the Face ID/TrueDepth flex on Face ID models. The original proximity sensor in particular must be transferred to use Apple's display calibration process on the iP9 Calibration screen. Damage to these flexes during the swap is the most common cause of Face ID, proximity or auto-brightness faults after a screen replacement, so take particular care releasing and re-seating them.
True Tone and auto-brightness function on all aftermarket grades on the latest iOS. On the iP9 Calibration screen, run Apple's calibration process after fitting to pair the display and confirm the genuine-used reading in Parts and Service History. Test touch response, True Tone, auto-brightness and Face ID before returning the device to the customer.
