The Nothing Phone (3a) launched on 4 March 2025 at £329, succeeding the (2a) as Nothing's volume mid-range device. It arrived alongside the (3a) Pro, and the pair marked a step up in ambition — the (3a) generation was the first Nothing phone to carry three rear cameras, adding a telephoto alongside the main and ultrawide. The device runs a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, a 6.77-inch display at 120Hz, and a 5000mAh battery with 45W wired charging.

Nothing has committed to three Android major updates and six years of security patches on this generation, with support running to March 2031. That matters for repair economics: a device with a documented six-year software life is one customers keep and repair rather than replace. The (3a) will still be worth fixing in 2029, which is a longer commercially useful repair window than most mid-range Android devices offer.

Screen Replacement

Screen damage is the dominant repair on the (3a) as on every mid-range Android. The 6.77-inch AMOLED assembly runs at 120Hz, and aftermarket panels on Nothing devices are worth scrutinising — a display that drops to fixed 60Hz or shifts colour temperature is noticeable to a buyer who chose Nothing partly on design and screen quality. Where genuine assemblies are available they are the recommended path on this generation.

Battery Replacement

The (3a) carries a 5000mAh cell with 45W wired charging support. Fast charging accelerates cycle degradation relative to slower charging, so heavy users on 45W chargers will present for battery service earlier than the two-year rule of thumb suggests. Symptoms follow the standard pattern — shortened runtime, rapid drops under load, shutdowns before 20% remaining.

Charging Port Repair

USB-C port failure from angled cable insertion and connection wear is the second major intake category. The 45W charging specification means these ports carry more current than lower-power designs, and thermal cycling contributes to contact degradation over time. Port replacement is board-level micro-soldering requiring hot air rework equipment.

Camera Modules

The (3a) was the first Nothing phone with three rear cameras, housed in an extended camera module that accommodates the added telephoto. This makes camera module work more involved than on the (2a) generation, and it makes camera parts specific to this device — nothing from the (2a) family will fit. The telephoto unit in particular is a distinct part with no earlier equivalent in the Nothing catalogue.

Rear Panel and Glyph Interface

The (3a) retains the Glyph interface surrounding the camera module, on a taller body with less rounded corners than the (2a). The chassis is slimmer despite being larger overall, which means internal clearances are tighter and reassembly tolerances less forgiving. As with every Nothing device, the transparent panel leaves internal finish quality visible to the customer, so adhesive cleanup and bracket alignment matter more than on a conventional rebuild.

The Phone (3a) Pro launched the same day at £449 and is described by Nothing as very similar to the standard (3a), sharing the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, the 6.77-inch display and the 5000mAh battery.
