With the popularity of this console, we’re often asked questions about repairs. Here are the most common;
Replacing the Blu-ray optical drive requires special tools and taking apart the casing. To perform the replacement, you will need to remove the interior case top panel, disconnect the hard drive from the motherboard, and remove the optical drive assembly. Because it involves a lot of disassembling, it is not recommended for those without experience.
To begin disassembling a console, you will need to begin by turning the console upside down, removing the warranty sticker, and by using some type of tool to separate the black base from the upper portion. You will then proceed by removing all of the green screws using a TR10 Torx security screwdriver and removing the outer shell. You can then remove the entire main body from the outer casing and lift the metal panel that covers all of the components. From there, you will have all of the components exposed and ready to be removed or replaced. There are a number of good tutorial videos available on the web detailing the task.
If you want to clean the fan, you will want to begin by following the steps above to remove the casing. Once the casing is off and the metal cover is also off, you will have direct access to both the fan and the heatsink. You can clean it by wiping it down with a microfiber cloth and by using a can of compressed air in order to blow dust out of spots that might be unreachable.
